Haitian Vision
Foundation (HVF) is a Haitian-American collaboration that supports a
multi-pronged, culturally sensitive approach to providing access to education,
healthcare, and economic opportunity in the northern Haitian town of Dondon. We
believe in the dignity and capability of the Haitian people, and we believe
that providing these essential resources will give them the means to escape the
cycle of poverty.
Our vision is to establish an HVF center that includes a health care clinic, scholarship program, library, microcredit enterprise and vocational, English and music schools. After these programs are mature in Dondon, we will consider expanding HVF to other locations. The scholarship programs and health care clinic are well underway with 20 student sponsored and close to 400 patients with chronic diseases receiving medications from us. But there is much more to be done and we need your support!

Through this program, HVF
is providing needy children in Haiti with the educational opportunities they
deserve. In Haiti, there are few public schools. These are not well resourced
and may average 50-60 students in a class. The majority of primary and
secondary schools (including high schools) are private and are beyond the reach
of most families. The HVF scholarship program covers not only a student’s
tuition and fees, but also uniforms, school books, and school supplies.
Haitian’s limited access
to healthcare is one of the biggest problems that prevents Haiti from
prospering. As Winston Churchill said: “Healthy citizens are the greatest
assets a country can have.” In most Haitian communes, there are no bed-equipped
clinics. HVF has established a year around chronic disease clinic,
organizes once or twice yearly mobile clinics and is soon to begin training
community health care workers. To learn more about our health care

Most young Haitians don’t
have the opportunity to acquire professional skills, and this represents one of
the principal reasons Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.
To help overcome this problem, HVF will establish a vocational school in each
HVF center providing an opportunity to learn a trade or acquire professional
skills.

Microcredit
Enterprise
Small businesses help a
country prosper—a country without opportunities for the citizens to create
small businesses will never thrive. Existing microfinance institutions have
high interest rates or difficult terms of repayment, resulting in total failure
for many small entrepreneurs and farmers. Our intention is to establish a
self-sustaining microcredit enterprise that provides loans with an affordable
interest rate to these small entrepreneurs. We will use the interest collected
to pay the local citizens to administer this project. Instead of profiting from
small business entrepreneurs, HVF will work with them to make sure they
succeed.
